The ToDrinQ project has officially released the third edition of its newsletter. Marking over three years of progress since its launch in December 2022, this latest edition highlights a significant shift from laboratory innovation to real-world field validation and strategic European policy influence.
Strengthening the European Water Cluster
A central theme of this edition is the reinforcement of the ZeroPollution4Water (ZP4WC) Cluster. ToDrinQ Coordinator Luuk Rietveld recently met with eight new EU projects at the WKE2025 event in Brussels to co-design a shared roadmap. This collaboration aims to harmonize efforts across the continent to achieve a water pollution-free Europe through integrated technology and policy.
Technological Advancements: AI and Digital Twins
ToDrinQ continues to push the boundaries of digital water management. The newsletter features two new major publications focusing on:
- A Digital Twin-based Decision Support Platform for enhanced water quality monitoring.
- Machine Learning applications to improve the ozonation process in treatment plants.
Furthermore, the project is successfully deploying “Soft Sensors”—AI tools that fuse satellite and weather data to predict environmental risks like algal blooms in Athens and bacterial threats in the Alps, bypassing the need for expensive physical hardware.
Field Validation and Policy Impact
The newsletter reports on the successful deployment of a microbial sampling pilot at Waternet’s Loenderveen plant in the Netherlands. This field test, conducted by CEBEDEAU, validates the mobility and functionality of ToDrinQ’s sensing tools in real-world conditions. On the policy front, ToDrinQ contributed to a new Policy Brief regarding Disinfection By-products (DBPs), offering solutions to maintain safe water disinfection in the face of climate change.
New Visual Resources
To increase accessibility and engagement, ToDrinQ has launched a dedicated YouTube playlist. This hub serves as an audio-visual library for stakeholders to explore expert interviews, toolkit demonstrations, and project milestones.
