Support the implementation of the revised Drinking Water Directive.

Enhance the scientific and technical knowledge on drinking water quality protection, monitoring and treatment.

Increase the resilience of drinking water systems in terms of both increased robustness and adaptability.

Ensure high-quality drinking water, minimising micropollutants, pathogenic micro-organisms and disinfection by-products (DBPs).

  • Implement advanced preventive and mitigating strategies and measures to protect drinking water sources, treatment, and supply against harmful effects of global and climate change.
  • Apply effective risk assessment and management strategies enabling early warning systems and delivering readymade outputs for decision-making and governance.
  • Disseminate and use strong knowledge to address the disinfection by-products (DBPs) in drinking water, including pathways related to human exposure.
  • Raise awareness of advanced and cost-effective drinking water treatment and disinfection processes and technologies.

  • Broadly uptake solutions and technologies to enhance competitiveness of the EU water sector and increase the EU’s position and role in the global water scene.
  • Contribute to the EU Green Deal and the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6.
