The ToDrinQ project is addressing key challenges in drinking water quality monitoring, with Veolia France leading efforts in Demo Case 4 in Beaune, France. At the heart of this initiative, Florence Poti from Veolia France recently shared insights into the project’s impact on ensuring safe and sustainable drinking water for over 51,000 residents across 53 communities.
Challenges in Water Quality Management
The current monitoring process for pesticides, nitrates, and heavy metals relies on periodic laboratory testing, which results in significant delays. This lack of real-time data limits the ability to promptly diagnose contamination, take corrective actions, and optimize treatment operations. Additionally, there is an urgent need for:
- Real-time analytical tools to detect contamination and optimize treatment responses
- Efficient monitoring of granular activated carbon (GAC) filters to extend their lifespan without compromising water quality
- Cost-effective and sustainable solutions to replace traditional laboratory analysis with on-site, automated methods
