The Sustainable Development Report 2023 has been released, and it paints a sobering picture: the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) is still off track.
The report recommends that governments improve multilateralism, self-evaluate their own national progress, and revisit the SDG investment agenda. While the recently held Paris Summit resulted in some progress towards fulfilling previous commitments it did not fully address other obstacles.
The 17 SDGs were established in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. They provide a comprehensive framework to address the world’s most pressing challenges, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation and biodiversity decline, and social injustice. Each of the 17 goal has a distinct set of concrete targets to be achieved by 2030.
The Sustainable Development Goal 6 is about “clean water and sanitation for all”. It is one of 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, the official wording is: “Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.”
