With water resources in the Attica Region under increasing pressure, the Attica Water Lab has been established as a multi-stakeholder partnership bringing together public authorities, industry, hotel associations, the regional water and sewerage utility, academia, and civil society. Its mission is to promote water reuse and pave the way toward more sustainable and resilient water management.
The Living Lab aims to support the development and implementation of a Masterplan for water reuse, addressing the complex and challenging conditions of the Attica basin. Acting both as users and enablers, stakeholders contribute to creating a favourable environment for water reuse through appropriate regulatory and financial frameworks, as well as strengthened social acceptance.
Attica Water Lab fosters an innovation ecosystem that showcases cutting-edge solutions such as sewer mining and digital technologies. By identifying barriers to wider adoption of water reuse and nurturing synergies across local, regional, and national scales, the initiative helps shape relevant policy recommendations and financial mechanisms.
The Attica Water Lab is supported by Water Europe through the framework of Water-Oriented Living Labs (WOLLs) and is linked to European research projects such as ToDrinQ and THESEUS, which focus on developing best practices for drinking water conservation and its sustainable, circular use.
